Last night was amazing, as I finally went to see The Color Purple musical, starring Fantasia Barrino! I headed over to The Kennedy Center in D.C. with a few family members to see what all the commotion was about--and I must say, this show definitely walks the walk! Set in rural Georgia, in the early 1900's, this story definitely takes the audience through it...From the opening scene with two little girls playing hand games and singing childhood songs all the way through getting to know Celie and witnessing her evolve from a meek, battered child into a self-sufficient woman, you come to know the characters. Truly, the musical was comprised of an incredibly talented young cast who used their love, wit and passion to keep you near. And, oh the singing...the actors' voices lifted up through the theater-- moving my feet and, at times, moving me to tears. I love a story that draws me in and makes me incredibly happy and then quite sad in an instance. Congrats Fantasia, what a wonderful job! "" - Natahcia Smith
