Breakin’ the Trends for Fall/Winter 2010

Is it that time of year already? Goodbye summer breeze, fall and winter are around the corner. It is time for layering, sweaters, jackets, boots, and hats; you name it. This is an exciting year for fashion, so many trends are happening right now, and anyone can be innovative and unique with their personal style preference.

Although we saw vibrant colors for spring and summer, the fall/winter trends take an almost drastic turn to shades of grey and black with pops of color. Eighties inspired neon and any shade of red from cherry, ruby, tomato, and brick, even pink hues such as fuchsia or magenta add pop. The fire engine red lipstick fashioned by celebs like Madonna and Jody Watley in the early eighties is back in full effect! This season’s trends consist of intermingling classic styles from the 30s, 40s, and 50s eras (retro glamour), peep-toepumps with stacked heels, vintage 80s, luxurious fabrics such as velvet, brocade, tweed, fur, and leatheras well as overstated embellishment by way of zippers, straps, and buckles on clothing and accessories. Jewelry remains bold and chunky, but in more subtle hues.

Metallic tones of bronze, copper, and pewter are a “must have” and add shimmer and shine to brighten up any outfit for daytime or evening.  Exaggerated shoulder pads, off the shoulder styles, and cinched waistlines are back, as well as men’s inspired suits tailored to fit a woman’s curves also known as “the power suit” which was an 80s original has once again become a staple item for this season. Some other trends that you will see are 80s punk rock, currently seen with the Mohawk hairstyle and oversized sweaters worn as dresses or over leggings. This style paired with a wide belt, knee-high or thigh-high boots, and chunky jewelry will give you a “straight off the runway” look.
